This contract, valued at £200,000 for the 2025/26 financial year, was aimed at enhancing efforts to combat Bovine Tuberculosis through supplementary works in key Welsh regions. The tender falls under the service industry category, specifically relating to veterinary services, training, and wildlife preservation, within the United Kingdom. The procurement method used was direct, a 'below threshold - without competition' approach, owing to technical reasons and the absence of reasonable alternatives. The contract was awarded to Mentera, a supplier based in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, marking a significant collaboration between local authorities and stakeholders to manage animal health risks. The contract was signed on 1st April 2025, and spans until 31st March 2026, with the procurement stage being complete as of the 26th of September, 2025.

This tender presents numerous opportunities for businesses specialising in agricultural and veterinary services, offering a chance to contribute to critical public health initiatives. Companies skilled in training services and veterinary expertise, particularly those familiar with the TB landscape in Wales, will find this contract highly beneficial. With a strategic approach by the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, participating businesses could leverage this opportunity to expand their service portfolio, collaborate on innovative epidemiological projects, and strengthen partnerships with key organisations such as APHA and Aberystwyth University. The initiative also opens doors for businesses involved in wildlife preservation, further establishing their presence within the agricultural sector while supporting sustainable practices in animal health and welfare.
