The procurement process initiated by Ards and North Down Borough Council focuses on the provision of new, replacement, and maintenance of play areas within the Borough of Ards and North Down, located in Bangor, Northern Ireland. This contract is classified under the 'works' category with playground equipment, park and playground equipment, landscaping for playgrounds, complete or part construction and civil engineering work, and repair and maintenance services as key components. The procurement process was conducted through an open procedure, and currently sits at the award stage following its completion on 17 April 2026. The overarching contract period started on 17 April 2026 and is initially set for two years, with options for extension up to 2031. The consultation and submission deadlines were extended, indicating the Council's commitment to inclusive and thorough participation, with electronic submissions allowed in English. This tender represents significant opportunities for businesses involved in manufacturing and supplying playground and park equipment, landscaping services, and construction, especially those rooted in Northern Ireland. The procurement clearly favours SMEs, which indicates a dedication to fostering business growth within smaller enterprises. Companies capable of delivering innovative playground designs, high play value, and strong technical assessments are poised to benefit, with the emphasis placed on quality and social value in the decision-making criteria. Furthermore, there might be substantial additional work involving externally funded refurbishments or developments like skateparks and pump tracks, presenting vast avenues for companies specialising in such niches. Firms adhering to high-quality standards, performance criteria, and timely delivery schedules will be ideal candidates for renewal opportunities under this agreement.
