Notice Description

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is seeking proposals from suitably qualified and experienced training providers for the delivery of high-quality generic training courses to support the continued professional development of Staff and Associate Specialist (SAS) doctors across Wales. The contract will include the delivery of programmes in key development areas such as conflict resolution, AI in medicine, active bystander training, leadership and management, advanced communication skills, medical ethics and law, making a business case, and wellbeing and self-compassion. These courses are intended to equip SAS doctors with the knowledge, competencies and professional skills required to support their career progression--particularly in working towards eligibility for the General Medical Council's Specialist Register and future consultant-level roles within NHS Wales.

Lot Information

Lot 1 - Conflict resolution

To equip doctors with the knowledge, communication skills, and professional behaviours needed to effectively prevent, manage, and resolve conflict in clinical practice, in order to enhance patient safety, teamwork, and quality of care

Lot 2 - AI in Medicine

To equip doctors with the knowledge, skills, and professional judgment needed to safely, ethically, and effectively use artificial intelligence in clinical practice to enhance patient care and decision-making.

Lot 3 - Being an active Bystander

To empower doctors with the confidence, skills, and professional responsibility to safely challenge inappropriate behaviour, support colleagues, and promote a culture of respect, psychological safety, and patient safety in healthcare settings

Lot 4 - Leadership and Management

To equip doctors with the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviours needed to lead teams, manage resources, drive service improvement, and make ethical, accountable decisions that enhance patient care and organizational effectiveness.

Lot 5 - Advanced Communication Skills

To enhance doctors' ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, families, and colleagues, enabling them to manage complex or sensitive clinical interactions, support shared decision-making, and maintain professionalism in all healthcare settings.

Lot 6 - Medical Ethics and Law

To equip doctors with the knowledge, skills, and professional judgment needed to apply ethical principles and legal requirements in clinical practice, make informed and morally sound decisions, communicate responsibly, and uphold professional accountability.

Lot 7 - Making a Business Case

To equip doctors with the knowledge, analytical skills, and professional judgment needed to develop, present, and implement effective business cases that support service improvement, resource optimization, and evidence-based decision-making in healthcare.

Lot 8 - Wellbeing and Self Compassion

To support doctors in developing self-awareness, resilience, and self-compassion skills that enhance personal wellbeing, sustain professional effectiveness, and foster a supportive, psychologically safe clinical environment.
