Summary of the contracting process

Network Rail Infrastructure Limited is initiating a planning stage for the "Network Rail Track Focused Railway Systems Contract" as part of its Rail Systems Alliances, aimed at designing and constructing track works across the UK. The procurement process, categorised under construction work for railways, will particularly focus on track renewals, upgrades, and integration with signalling systems. The estimated start date for mobilisation is August 2028, with the project going live in mid-2029. Key milestones include a market engagement meeting for potential suppliers, set to occur online with specific dates to be confirmed, where the project's key requirements and scope will be discussed. Interested suppliers are encouraged to register their interest by 20th February 2026.

This tender represents significant business growth opportunities, especially for SMEs and VCSEs, as it seeks partnerships with capable suppliers for comprehensive railway systems solutions encompassing design, construction, and specialist engineering services. Businesses skilled in railway engineering, civil engineering support, and railway-track maintenance will find this tender particularly suited to their capabilities. Given the large scale and extended duration of the contract, which runs until July 2039, participating businesses can expect sustained involvement, fostering long-term growth and collaboration with a central government public authority. This initiative can enable significant advancements in railway infrastructure, aligning with sustainability objectives and supporting ongoing transition requirements within the UK's rail network.
