Summary of the contracting process

Natural England, a central government public authority based in London, UK, is currently in the planning stage of a tender process concerning the Nature Restoration Fund. The tender focuses on supply market research related to great crested newts, specifically for the creation and restoration of ponds across England under Environmental Delivery Plans (EDPs). The procurement process aims to address environmental impacts while ensuring compliance with regulations. As part of preliminary market engagement, Natural England has issued a notice inviting inputs from potential suppliers. Interested parties can participate in a survey to inform procurement requirements, with the deadline for engagement set for 27th March 2026. The procurement falls under the works category, with classifications including environmental improvement and nature reserve services.

This tender offers significant opportunities for various businesses in the environmental sector. It is particularly suited for landowners, conservation measure delivery bodies, habitat banks, not-for-profit organisations, ecological consultancies, and local authorities involved in ecological services and nature recovery initiatives. Suppliers with expertise in environmental monitoring, auditing, and consultancy services are encouraged to engage. This procurement process represents a potential avenue for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) to expand their roles within the ecological space. The contract period begins in January 2028 and extends through March 2042, with provisions for renewal, allowing for long-term collaboration and sustainable growth opportunities in environmental conservation efforts.

Natural England and Defra group Commercial are conducting preliminary supply market research for the provision of conservation measures prescribed in the Environmental Delivery Plans (EDPs) that address great crested newts under the Nature Restoration Fund (NRF).
