Summary of the contracting process

The National Library of Scotland and the National Records of Scotland have concluded a contract for the supply and delivery of archival boxboard, which includes procurement of various sizes and weights, tailored to be cut and folded using their in-house KasemakeCAD machines. The project, falling under the CPV classification of "Hand-made paper or paperboard," is categorised within the goods industry sector. This contractual procurement, which concludes a successful tender process, was conducted under an open procedure and is located in Edinburgh, specifically Sighthill. The contract, worth £577,000, was awarded to KLUG-CONSERVATION, Walter Klug GmbH & Co. KG on 3rd July 2026, and aims to enhance the preservation of library and archive collections in compliance with relevant ISO and British Standards.

This procurement presents notable opportunities for suppliers in the specialised paper and boxboard industry, particularly those skilled in providing high-quality archival materials. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that can offer innovative solutions in document conservation or manage niche service requirements such as the uplift of off-cuts and pallets would find this contract particularly advantageous for business growth. Additionally, the joint nature of the contract means collaborative ventures might also be viable for enterprises looking to expand their service range in the public sector, fostering both regional and international partnerships given the participation of foreign bids.
