Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Transport procured a single works package for repairs and safety improvements at its London premises. The requirement was suitable for SMEs and attracted two SME final-stage bids, indicating that a smaller contractor with appropriate technical competence, project management and social-value proposals could compete. Strong technical quality mattered more than price alone.
