Summary of the contracting process

The University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, based in Worthing, has entered the award stage of its procurement process for a five-year maintenance contract. The contract, titled "FYY - FT10 Diathermies Maintenance Contract - St Richards," focuses on the healthcare industry, aiming to maintain critical medical equipment at St Richard's Hospital. This direct award, initiated on 26th June 2026, concluded after determining that Medtronic Limited, the original equipment manufacturer, is uniquely positioned to provide the required services due to technical exclusivity. The contract period extends until 25th June 2031, and it covers planned preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and technical support, ensuring equipment safety and compliance.

This tender presents growth opportunities, particularly for businesses engaged in specialised medical equipment maintenance and support services. While the direct nature of this award limits competition, companies capable of providing certified maintenance services or who possess proprietary technical capabilities in medical technology could position themselves as valuable partners for similar opportunities. Businesses focusing on innovation in medical technologies or those offering complementary services to medical or surgical equipment maintenance might find pathways to expand their operations by targeting specific niches that require exclusive or specialised servicing expertise.
