Summary of the contracting process

Translink, a public undertaking based in Belfast, is initiating a procurement process for the supply and delivery of a Road/Rail Recovery Vehicle to be used on the Northern Ireland Railways rail network. This procurement falls within the industry category of railway maintenance or service vehicles. The tender is currently in the planning stage, with a pre-market engagement deadline scheduled for 6 May 2026. Interested suppliers are encouraged to contact Translink's procurement department with queries by quoting "P-3372 Road Rail Recovery Vehicle." A subsequent stage of notice communication is set for 11 May 2026, and the contract period will commence on 1 August 2026, lasting until 30 July 2029, with a potential extension up to 2030. The vehicle must be capable of on-road, off-road, and rail use and accommodate six personnel along with approximately three tonnes of equipment.

This tender offers considerable opportunities for businesses involved in manufacturing railway maintenance vehicles and associated parts. Companies specialising in railway and tramway rolling stock or providing innovative solutions for lightweight and safe tooling would be well-suited to respond. The contract's focus on utilities, and the details on the procurement's main category as 'goods,' highlight potential growth areas for businesses exploring markets in the region governed by Northern Irish devolved regulations. Further engagement with Translink could position suppliers favourably within the market, potentially resulting in future collaborations and an expansion of business networks.
