Summary of the contracting process

The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, located in Bangor, United Kingdom, has completed the procurement process for the ongoing support, maintenance, and partial upgrade of their BloodTrack Courier System, aimed at ensuring compatibility and service continuity. The procurement falls under the services industry category, specifically involving software and medical equipment, and has been conducted as a direct award for reasons of technical compatibility with existing infrastructure. The procurement process is currently at the award stage, having been announced on 18th June 2026, with the contract period set to commence on 1st July 2026 and run until 30th June 2027. The contract, valued at approximately GBP 153,883.9, involves delivery in various regions across the UK including UKL12, UKL13, and UKL23.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in software maintenance, repair, and support, particularly those specialising in medical equipment integration with existing health service infrastructure. Haemonetics Ltd, a large-scale supplier, has been identified as the sole supplier, highlighting the value of specialised knowledge and technical expertise in securing contract awards. Businesses that can offer proprietary technologies or have exclusive rights that align with existing systems will find this contract type particularly advantageous. Future competitive tendering by the Health Board for similar or complementary services provides an avenue for businesses to plan long-term strategies and foster growth through participation in public sector procurement opportunities.

Notice Title

BCU-DIR-63185 Ongoing Support, Maintenance and Partial Kiosk Upgrade for BloodTrack Courier System

Notice Description

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board intends to direct award a contract for the ongoing support, licensing and servicing of their existing BloodTrack Courier System. The decision to direct award has been made for compatibility reasons as the hardware, servers and supporting infrastructure is already in place to interface with the Health Board's network and systems. Only the equipment manufacturer is able to license, support and maintain their existing hardware. The Health Board also intend to upgrade part of their existing fleet of BloodTrack Kiosks due to some assets imminently reaching the end of their serviceable lifespan. The kiosks must be standardised across the Health Board to ensure compatibility with supporting infrastructure. This is an interim measure to ensure service continuity and the Health Board intends to conduct a competitive tendering exercise for this equipment and service in the longer term. A voluntary standstill period of 8 working days will be observed from the publication date of this notice.
