Summary of the contracting process

The Pirbright Institute is seeking a single principal contractor for a site steam upgrade at its Pirbright laboratory near Woking, Surrey. The works cover Stage 4 mechanical, electrical and civil design; enabling works for new steam and condensate-return connections; and the supply and installation of steam, condensate, pipework and associated equipment. The contractor will install a new connection from the EC1 steam distribution system to WBH, carry out the phased changeover of steam delivery, and complete associated civil and steelwork. The scope also includes decommissioning, removal and disposal of redundant WBH equipment, disconnection and isolation of gas, compressed air and mains water, commissioning, handover and production of a Project Information Folder for the client’s project manager. This is a works contract covering engineering design, boiler and steam-system installation and construction.
