The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust procured trust-wide planned preventative maintenance, servicing and emergency call-out for air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Enertech FM Limited won four lots: air conditioning and refrigeration, £525,377.68; Freeman chiller plant, £59,415.92; temperature mapping, £140,609.40; and UKAS calibration, £107,341.84. Cool Breeze FM Limited won the ultra-low-temperature freezer lot for £26,016.48. Each contract runs from 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027, with three optional 12-month extensions, potentially to 31 October 2030. The original tender estimated £1.2 million excluding VAT (£1.44 million including VAT). Bids were limited to one lot per supplier. Quality and price were weighted 60:40 for the air-conditioning and refrigeration lot; for each other lot, price was weighted 60:40 against quality.

This award demonstrates recurring Trust demand for dependable maintenance and emergency response across hospital cooling and refrigeration systems, as well as specialist freezer, chiller, temperature-mapping and calibration services. Competitors will need relevant technical experience and the capacity to provide planned servicing and call-outs across a hospital estate, where reliable operation of temperature-controlled equipment is central to the requirement. The split into specialist lots allowed suppliers to compete for a defined service area rather than the full portfolio, and SMEs submitted bids across all five lots, including the more specialist mapping and calibration work. A future competitor should be able to evidence strong service quality alongside an appropriately priced offer; quality was the larger evaluation element for the broad air-conditioning and refrigeration lot, while price carried greater weight in the other four lots. UKAS calibration capability is directly relevant to the calibration requirement.
