Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for the "OGH Beta Principal Contractor" project was conducted by the Natural History Museum in London, aiming to refurbish and fit-out a section of the Old General Herbarium gallery. This initiative is part of a light touch refurbishment to reinstall the gallery, closed since 1948, and is intended for a temporary pop-up display opening in September 2026. The procurement pertains to the works industry category, focusing on construction work for art and cultural buildings. The tender stage was initiated with documents accessible from 30th April 2026, necessitating the completion of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) to proceed. The contract was officially awarded on 25th June 2026, with a completion deadline set for 31st August 2026.

This tender provides substantial business growth opportunities for firms specialising in construction, particularly those focusing on cultural and museum-related projects. Given its classification as works procurement, businesses with expertise in construction for art and cultural spaces are best suited to meet the project's requirements. The successful supplier, Sam Forster Associates Ltd, an SME based in London, exemplifies the capability of small to medium enterprises to secure such significant contracts. This procurement demonstrates a valuable opportunity for similar businesses to build their portfolio with prestigious cultural institutions like the Natural History Museum.
