Summary of the contracting process

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority has completed a significant procurement process, culminating in an award for the supply of buses aimed at supporting the region's Bus Franchising programme. The procurement, which falls under the industry category of public transportation, involves the delivery of electric and diesel buses by various suppliers. The procurement method employed was selective, conducted under a framework agreement. Key documents were published on 14th July 2026, with contracts expected to be signed by 24th July 2026. The contracts, valued up to £275 million, will support the deployment of a modern, efficient bus fleet across South Yorkshire, extending through phases of delivery up to 2030.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses engaged in manufacturing and supplying motor vehicles, particularly those focused on large-scale production capacity and sustainable transport solutions. Companies that specialise in electric and diesel bus manufacturing or have related goods are well-positioned to benefit from this procurement. The scale and duration of the contract, along with the authority's commitment to evolving its bus network, suggest consistent demand for high-quality and innovative transportation solutions, offering growth and visibility in a critical infrastructure sector. Suppliers such as Bamford Bus Company Ltd., Pelican Engineering Company (Sales) Limited, and Alexander Dennis Limited have already been involved, highlighting the potential for both SMEs and larger companies to secure a foothold in this evolving market.
