Summary of the contracting process

NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board is buying a service to provide initial health assessments for looked-after children in Doncaster. The work is intended to ensure children receive timely, high-quality assessments in line with statutory and national guidance, with actions and recommendations focused on each child or young person’s best interests. This is an existing service moving to a new provider. It falls within medical practice and related services (CPV 85120000).

The procurement is recorded as awarded to The Lakeside Practice, with an active contract. The contract was signed on 1 October 2026 and is valued at £330,000. The stated service period is 15 December 2026 to 14 December 2029, with a described extension option of a further one year plus one year. The process used the Provider Selection Regime’s most suitable provider route, without a prior call for competition. Two bids were recorded. Evaluation was based on quality, with cost weighted at zero: service pathway (20%), mobilisation plan (10%), quality and innovation (15%), value (15%), integration, collaboration and sustainability (15%), improving access, reducing health inequalities and facilitating choice (15%), and social value (10%).

This award shows demand from NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board for a specialist service delivering initial health assessments to looked-after children in Doncaster. A credible future provider would need to demonstrate a child-centred assessment pathway that meets statutory and national guidance, delivers timely, high-quality work, and turns findings into recommendations that serve each child’s best interests. The evaluation also indicates that a strong service model alone is not enough: the buyer considered mobilisation, quality and innovation, value, integration and collaboration, sustainability, access, health inequalities, choice and social value. The successful provider was a local practice, illustrating that this requirement can be delivered by a smaller organisation; competitors should be able to evidence the clinical capability and operational capacity to sustain the service, alongside effective coordination with relevant care partners.
