Local Places for Nature - Re-greening Port Talbot
Notice Description
An award has been made by Neath Port Talbot Council for the following:-Neath Port Talbot Council have successfully secured funding from the National Heritage Lottery under Local Places for Nature to help 're-green the grey in Port Talbot' and to this end, we are seeking to procure a contractor to deliver an ambitious project of re-greening the space under the M4 motorway in Port Talbot using a combination of green features such as planted screens as well as artwork and carefully selected lighting. A report was commissioned to highlight which features would be most beneficial and forms the basis of the project. We intend to demonstrate how, by implementing simple solutions, we can have a positive impact on the environment around us but also a positive impact on people's mental health and wellbeing. 'Re-greening Port Talbot' also aims to tackle the issues of 'heat island' effect, air and noise pollution as well as provide a habitat for wildlife. It is meant to inspire people to rethink the way we look at providing space for nature; make them understand how nature can help us fight the impact of climate change and enable local people to interact positively with nature. This project will serve as a pilot example of best practice to demonstrate that green infrastructure can fulfill multiple functions and deliver multiple benefits. The successful contractor will deliver the outcomes set out in the consultant's report over a period of approx 8 mths from April 2024.
