Reconstruction of the Twisted Chimney Public Artwork Structure, Upper Rhymney Valley

Notice Description

Simnai Dirdro/Twisted Chimney is a public artwork in the Upper Rhymney Valley originally erected in 2010. The sculpture is designed by New York-based artist Brian Tolle. The sculpture represents optimism for the future of post-industrial communities like Bute Town and Rhymney whilst acknowledging the economic and social histories which are integral to their identity as towns. The twisted chimney art structure requires reconstruction due to initial storm damage and increased risk of further damage. In February 2024 some repair work was carried out on the structure. The Council are looking to rebuild the sculpture true to its original form whilst enhancing its durability and longevity. The steel frame is still in good condition and therefore will not need to be recreated and should be used in the reconstruction.Due to the specialist nature of the structure, the council is seeking suitably experience companies, who will carry out the reconstruction of the sculpture. The Council are seeking companies who are interested in undertaking this work. It is the intention that a Supplier Engagement Workshop on *Wednesday 11 September, 11:00-13:00* to discuss the project in more detail and from that companies will be asked to confirm if they would like to participate in and receive the tender documentation. This notice will be used as the call for competition.NOTE: To register your interest in this notice and obtain any additional information please visit the Sell2Wales Web Site at https://www.sell2wales.gov.wales/Search/Search_Switch.aspx?ID=143699.
