Notice Description

RSPB Cymru is looking to appoint a contractor for forest-to-bog works at Bryn Fawnog, Lake Vyrnwy, as part of an extensive ongoing programme of peatland restoration.The contractor will be working to raise the water table on an area of former commercial conifer plantation which has been clear felled. Restoration methods will include stump augering, ground smoothing, gully and ditch blocking and hag reprofiling. Also includes the spraying of 2 Rhododendron bushes and the removal of 2, 5x5m squares of old fencing from site.______________________________________________________________________This summer, the RSPB will release a further 3 separate invitations to tender relating to peatland restoration or surveying, with work completion some time between 01/10/2025 and 15/03/2026. Estimated person days provided WILL change when the invitation to tenders are released and are to be used as guide. Further information will be provided when the invitation to tenders are released. These are as follows:Eidda Fawr, Migneint - Gully and ditch blocking using peat dams, hag reprofiling, some possible modification of previous work. Estimated person days: 140.Helfa Isaf, Ffridd Cedig and Mynydd Newydd, Lake Vyrnwy - Gully and ditch blocking using peat dams, hag reprofiling, modification of previous work, possible install of coir logs. Estimated person days: 68.Cwm Pennant Peat Depth Survey, Llangynog - 706ha site requiring a peat depth survey on a 50x50m grid.
