Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is initiating a procurement process for the “Cytogenetic Digital Imaging Analysis System” as part of its Laboratory Genetics department. This tender, currently in the planning stage, seeks to replace the existing Leica CytoVision Automated Cytogenetics Platform used across multiple Scottish Genetics Consortium laboratories, including NHS Grampian and NHS Lothian. The deadline for suppliers to submit their responses to the questionnaire is noon on 12th February 2018, with a supplier open day planned for June 1, 2018, in Glasgow.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the health technology sector, particularly those specialising in imaging systems and software that can support cytogenetic analysis. Companies that can demonstrate proven capabilities in handling both germline and somatic analysis, as well as seamless integration with existing laboratory infrastructures, will be well-positioned to compete. Engaging in this procurement process may also provide networking opportunities with other Scottish Genetics Consortium laboratories.

Lot Information

Lot 1

NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Laboratory Genetics wish to procure a system to replace the existing Leica CytoVision Automated Cytogenetics Platform that is currently in service within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and the other three Scottish Genetics Consortium laboratories (NHS Grampian, NHS Lothian, NHS Tayside). This Exercise is to explore the options in this area by identifying possible solutions in the current market and to understand the projected costs of a replacement system. NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Laboratory Genetics process over 650,000 images for germline and somatic cytogenetic analysis annually (includes both karyotype and fluorescence in-situ hybridization). There are around 60 users who require daily access to the system. As an estimate for scope, this is around half of the total workload of the Scottish Genetics Consortium laboratories as a whole and around half the number of users. The successful system(s) must have proven capability for both germline and somatic cytogenetic image analysis, and must support the migration from the existing image system to the new system, including the handling of legacy images. The successful system must also support the ability to seamlessly integrate with the existing NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Laboratory Genetics environment and associated infrastructure. It is our intention to hold a supplier open day, where the other Scottish Genetics Consortium Laboratories will be invited as observers. The date for this will be published on the Public Contract Scotland website. Please register your interest and you will be sent further information nearer the time.. A questionnaire has been uploaded to this notice to allow suppliers to respond to which will provide NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde with information from the market to better inform their procurement decisions. Closing date for questionnaire responses is Noon on Monday 12th February 2018. Please respond as per instructions in the document.
