Notice Description

Cadha Ruadh barrier consists of a corrugated double height barrier supported by timber strainers at approximately 2.6m centres adjacent to Cadha Ruadh single track road on the approach road into Scalpay main village. The barrier has been dislodged over the years due to a combination of ground instability, land slippage and decay of the timber strainers. The project comprises of the reinstatement of the original barrier rails supported on new steel column supports, embankment works and verging. The embankment support to the barriers shall require reconstruction using a combination of rock filled gabions and compacted structural fill. The verges adjacent to the barrier shall be widened to provide a 1.8m wide verge. Existing lighting columns shall be reinstated behind the barrier in accordance with the requirements of CNES. Scottish Water and BT have services within the location which shall be diverted/replaced and protected in accordance with their requirements.
