The plant is found growing on land and in the water in the canal system. Any solution needs to be practical, scalable and take account of environmental regulations and the wider ecology of the canal and its catchment. The procurement will be undertaken in two phases. It is the intention that Phase 1 of the project will invite 4 teams (challenge solvers) to undertake a 8 month Proof of Concept stage (value 37.5k GBP per team). Depending on the outcome of Phase 1, this may be followed by a Phase 2 Prototype development and demonstration stage, 12-18 months duration, where 1-2 promising challenge solvers will be invited to develop their solution further with a further 150k GBP being available subject to continued funding and successful proof of concept.",
