To create new revenue streams and a more financially sustainable model for meeting core costs of managing the John Muir Way - with the aim of generating as a minimum 25,000 GBP per year; 2. To develop the values, potential and impact of the John Muir Way brand; 3. To create new products, services and opportunities for consumers and businesses to engage with the John Muir Way brand and its values.

The Central Scotland Green Network Trust seeks a consultant to develop and implement a revenue-generation business plan for the John Muir Way (JMW), to include the following elements, to be researched and delivered over a period no longer than 12 months starting in September 2019. This work will take a strategic approach to JMW brand and revenue development and will include research, recommendations and delivery of at least the following: A. Market research of other Long Distance Routes and the income generating activities of those routes, and with consumers and businesses, to inform the work below. Research to be captured in a report and shared with CSGNT. B. Development of a brand licencing / merchandise strategy and proposed JMW merchandise range - to include brand development work (values and visuals), design visuals, brand manual, recommended trademark categories, brand licencing royalty scale, licence agreement templates, and appropriate approach towards pre-existing unlicensed JMW branded or related goods. C. Trademark registration of JMW brand in recommended classes as per B above. To include managing TM registration and cost of trademark fees. D. Recruitment via tender of a third party to produce a JMW merchandise range and fulfil orders under licence agreement with appropriate royalties. Securing of retail outlets. Working with CSGNT staff to embed the management of sales/revenue. Negotiating appropriate agreements with producers of pre-existing JMW branded goods. (Or delivery of other recommended approach to JMW merchandise.) E. Research and identify an appropriate model and charging structure for business listings on JMW website, and work with CSGNT project staff to target appropriate businesses. F. Work with CSGNT staff and web agency to identify the operational requirements and running costs of the paid-for listings function on the website, and to embed within CSGNT operations. G. Development of a sponsorship strategy, and action to secure initial sponsor/s in 2020. H. Explore how best to maximise opportunity for the JMW (specifically around revenue-generation) by linking up with surrounding attractions and activities close to the route. I. Consideration and recommendations on other fundraising and revenue generation activity, in the context of the JMW specific market. J. Financial projections, both income and expenditure for at least 5 years, for all elements above. K. An analysis of likely ongoing costs including any licenses and maintenance etc. L. A comprehensive risk assessment and mitigation strategies. M. Templates and training for ongoing implementation by CSGNT (e.g. brand licencing/royalty agreement and sponsorship pitch). The budget available for this contract is 35,000 GBP exclusive of VAT. Please see the Tender Brief for details of supporting budget allocations in addition to the contract budget.
