To pull together recent studies on the use of recycled materials in road construction, highlighting relevance to the Scottish road network. To identify new materials or processes using recycled materials worthy of further consideration and/or research.

Organisations across the world are looking at incorporating recycled materials into more traditional products used in road surface construction and maintenance. However there is a lack of coordination and pooling of available information making it difficult for Scottish roads authorities to fully embrace and engage with new innovation and to avoid mistakes, some of which may not be evident for many years. The overall aim is to consider available recent worldwide studies on the use of recycled materials in road construction, highlighting relevance to the Scottish road network. The research will provide consistent advice and guidance to all Scottish roads authorities. It will also identify new materials or processes using recycled materials worthy of further consideration and/or research.. Proposals to carry out this work should be marked "Confidential" and be submitted by email to shaun.millar@improvementservice.org.uk
