Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS), alongside collaborators including the Welsh Blood Service, Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service, and Irish Blood Transfusion Service, has completed the procurement process for Apheresis Collection Systems. This contract, valued at £11,600,000, was formalised on 8th November 2021, following an open tendering process. The procurement falls within the health industry category, with significant activities located in Edinburgh and other regions across the UK and Ireland. The initiation of this procurement was planned to enhance the authorities' capacity to collect platelet doses from donors, a crucial service in the healthcare sector.

This tender presents a robust opportunity for businesses in the medical equipment sector, particularly those specialising in blood collection technology. Companies that manufacture or supply apheresis systems, including those capable of providing related services such as maintenance and training, would be well-positioned to compete. Given the contract's duration, extending potentially to seven years with further renewals, suppliers involved in research and compliance with new EU regulations regarding blood collection materials, particularly those transitioning away from DEHP, may find this tender particularly relevant for sustainable business growth.
