Forestry and Land Scotland had a requirement to place a contract with an external service provider for the provision of Woodland Establishment against Lot 1 of the Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) FW0049 for a site at Newhill - 53.86ha. Lot 1 is where FLS will award woodland creation afforestation projects on the National Forest Estate to suppliers on a DPS. The projects are 5 year projects (3+2) and will be a combination of commercial and amenity woodland establishment, on sites across Scotland. The Contractor will undertake the responsibility of the Forest Works Manager (FWM) to ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the industry standards, guidelines and best practice. The Contractor will undertake all the establishment work that will be required to deliver the overall specification in the Land Management Plan and associated documents: this will include appropriate ground preparation, vegetation control, sourcing appropriate provenances of the tree species specified in the Land Management Plan, planting, maintenance, and protection of the crop from damaging agents. Contractors are expected to be able to source all specified provenances of plant material or suggest suitable alternatives Due to the risk of disease, current FLS policy is to only procure stock that has been sown and grown in Great Britain, due to the risk of hybridisation of Dothistroma Needle Blight (DNB), current FLS policy is to use only Pine Species sown and grown within Scotland. It will be the responsibility of the Contractor to ensure welfare provision on site is fully compliant with legislation and FLS requirements. Contractors will be expected to have appropriate biosecurity precautions in place for all sub-contractors, contractors and supervisors working on or visiting FLS sites.
