Summary of the contracting process

The National Library of Scotland, in collaboration with the National Records of Scotland, is planning a tender process for a contract to supply and deliver archival boxboard. This procurement is related to the "Recreation, culture and religion" industry category and is valued at £480,000. The procurement is currently at the planning stage, with a future notice expected on 1st April 2026. The tender evaluation, which will require sample materials, will be conducted jointly by both organisations. The contract, planned to commence in summer 2026, will have an initial duration of two years, with the option to extend for two further 24-month periods depending on performance and requirements. The delivery location is Edinburgh (Sighthill), and the procurement adheres to ISO and BS standards for archival and library collections conservation.

This procurement presents a significant opportunity for businesses in the manufacturing and supply sectors of archival and conservation materials. Companies experienced in the production of bespoke box-making services using machinery such as KasemakeCAD and Global RBC70 die-cutting machines are well-positioned to respond to this tender. The contract also includes ancillary services like the uplift of off-cuts and pallets, which could appeal to logistics and waste management firms looking to expand their offerings. Engaging in this procurement process could enable a business to establish long-term relationships with prominent public law bodies in Scotland, potentially leading to further contract opportunities in the archival and cultural sectors.
