Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS), located in Edinburgh, has initiated a procurement process under the "planning" stage for the project titled "SPS-02372 Conservation Strategy for Selected SPS Historic Estate Assets". This service-oriented procurement is focused on the public order and safety industry category. The goal is to develop conservation strategies for historic prison sites at HMP Barlinnie in Glasgow, HMP Castle Huntly near Dundee, and HMP Perth. This project involves various tasks such as significance assessments, condition surveys, and the development of action plans, with the future Contract Notice anticipated on 3rd August 2026. This procurement follows the GPA Procurement Procedure to seek qualified multidisciplinary suppliers for the task.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses specialising in conservation, architecture, and heritage management. The requirement for a multidisciplinary supplier indicates potential partnerships or collaborations among firms with expertise in structural appraisals, historical assessments, and the creation of maintenance and operational guidance. Firms with previous experience in engaging with statutory consents and a familiarity with Historic Environment Scotland will be well-suited for this contract. By contributing to the maintenance and conservation of historic assets, businesses have the chance to establish or expand their presence in the public sector, particularly in projects involving historic and listed buildings.
