Summary of the contracting process

The Cairngorms National Park Authority has initiated a tender for an "Aspen Survey" under the industry category of Environmental Protection. The project entails surveying the presence and condition of Aspen trees throughout the Cairngorms National Park. This open procurement process, with a budget of £34,000, involves services and is scheduled under an open procedure with electronic submissions via the Public Contracts Scotland website. The closing date for electronic submissions is 17 August 2026 at noon, marking the end of the tender period and the beginning of the award period. The procurement process is currently at the Tender stage, with active involvement from the Cairngorms National Park Authority, based in Grantown-on-Spey, UKM62.

This tender represents a notable opportunity for businesses involved in environmental surveying and ecological data collection. Firms with expertise in field surveying and data management relating to ecological projects would be well-suited to this tender. Due to the regional focus on the Cairngorms, companies with local experience or geographic adaptability stand to gain a strategic advantage. The project also presents an avenue for businesses to contribute to the Park's broader ecological goals, potentially leading to further opportunities in the environmental protection sector as the Park develops its wide-scale Aspen strategy. This is particularly beneficial for firms capable of leveraging modern survey technology, such as mobile applications specified for data recording in the project.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The Park Authority invites suitably qualified and experienced applicants to submit a tender to undertake field survey and data collection of Aspen trees across the National Park with accompanying provision of results to the Park Authority. Applicants may tender for all or only some of the geographical extent of survey required, and/or may submit a combined tender with an associate to cover the whole extent of survey required. Some Aspen survey data already exists so not all of the National Park extent will need to be surveyed. More details are given later in this document. Surveys are expected to be recorded using the Park Authorities bespoke mobile phone / tablet 'Aspen app' to record data. More details are given later in this document. Survey results will be used by the Park Authority to inform a Park wide Aspen strategy. This strategy will coordinate work to achieve a connected and fully ecological functioning network of Aspen trees and their reliant species.
