Summary of the contracting process

The National Archives, located in Richmond, England, is seeking a supplier to develop a "Collection Care Database" as part of a tender process initiated on April 6, 2017. This project aims to transition from various internally-hosted datasets to a consolidated cloud solution, with a strong preference for a Software as a Service (SaaS) model. The tender period concluded on May 12, 2017, while the contract is scheduled to commence on June 11, 2017, and run until June 10, 2020. The procurement method is open, allowing for a broad range of submissions, which would be particularly relevant for businesses in the software and IT services sectors.

This opportunity presents a significant chance for growth for software development firms, especially those with proven solutions that align with the requirements outlined in the tender documentation. Companies specialised in cloud computing, software as a service (SaaS), and database management systems would be well-positioned to compete effectively in this tender. By leveraging existing technology and minimising custom development, these businesses could meet the National Archives' needs efficiently and economically.

Notice Title

Collection Care Database

Notice Description

The purpose of this Procurement Process is for The National Archives (TNA) to select a Supplier to deliver a database solution for its Collection Care department (CCD). Our aim is to shift from a series of ad-hoc, internally-hosted datasets to a unified cloud solution. Our strong preference is for the solution to be based on a pre-existing and demonstrably functional solution, which would require minimal configuration and/or development in order to meet the functional requirements described in Section 5 of the Invitation to Tender document. Whilst our strong preference is for the solution to be delivered as Software as a Service (SaaS), Potential Suppliers may submit solutions using alternative architecture such as an on-premise or hybrid model - as long as the solution meets the functional requirements described in Section 5 of the Invitation to Tender document, within the budget as declared in Section 1.3 of the Invitation to Tender document.
