Summary of the contracting process

The London Borough of Sutton is undertaking a public procurement process titled the "Internet of Things Competition," aimed at developing an innovative IoT programme across five councils in South London, including Croydon, Kingston upon Thames, Merton, Richmond upon Thames, and Sutton. This initiative will utilise a budget of £4 million over three years, with a tender period that closes on 21 February 2020. The competition invites suppliers to submit proof of concept proposals demonstrating how IoT technology can enhance quality of life and drive economic growth. The contract execution is anticipated to commence on 30 March 2020, continuing until 30 June 2020. The procurement method adopted is an open procedure, which encourages participation from a broad range of suppliers.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those specialising in IoT solutions, technology innovation, and services that aim to improve urban living conditions. Companies with expertise in developing networks and technology platforms, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), would be well-suited to engage in this competition. Furthermore, the phased approach of the proof of concept deployment allows for scalable trial implementations, enabling businesses to showcase their capabilities effectively and position themselves for further opportunities within the public sector.
