Summary of the contracting process

Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd is in the planning stage for a procurement process entitled "Train Speed and Location Platform" under the industry category of industry-specific software development services (CPV 72212100). The core objective is to enhance train speed monitoring and location tracking within the UK. The planned project involves integrating GPS data with infrastructure information to improve incident response times and service safety. A Periodic Indicative Notice (PIN) has been issued for pre-procurement market engagement, with a deadline for information response set for 23rd August 2024. The procurement method involves a request for information (RFI), and any formal competition announcement will cease ongoing discussions.

This tender offers substantial opportunities for businesses involved in GPS technology, software development, and data integration services. Firms with expertise in developing industry-specific software packages, train-monitoring systems, and information technology services are particularly well-suited to compete. By responding to this RFI, companies can showcase their existing solutions, functionalities, and capabilities, along with indicative cost structures. Engaging in this process can provide businesses with visibility and a competitive edge in future procurement opportunities associated with Network Rail’s initiative to improve train safety and performance monitoring systems.
