Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Supply Chain is actively seeking to establish a comprehensive framework for supplying wheelchairs, specialist seating, and related services, focused primarily within the UK. This procurement process, categorized under goods, entails two primary lots: Wheelchairs and Specialist Seating Products, and Wheelchair Managed Services. The open procurement method is being utilised, and the tender stage is active, with key deadlines set for January 2025 to begin the award process. The framework covers an initial period of 24 months, with an option for a 24-month extension, indicating significant long-term engagement. The overall contract value is estimated at £77,000,000, making it a substantial opportunity in the healthcare sector.

This tender presents considerable opportunities for businesses in the wheelchair and medical supply industry, particularly those with capabilities in manufacturing and service provision. Companies specializing in powered and manual wheelchairs, seating systems, and related accessories can benefit from Lot 1. Meanwhile, Lot 2 focuses on repairs, maintenance, and management services, which is ideal for those providing after-sales care and technical support. Given the high monetary value and the framework's duration, it is an excellent opportunity for both small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and larger corporations to establish or expand their presence in the healthcare sector by partnering with the NHS Supply Chain. Substantial awards have already been made to various suppliers, demonstrating the lucrative nature of this framework.
