Summary of the contracting process

The Education Authority (EANI) of Northern Ireland is currently in the planning stage of a procurement process for a Catering Management Tool, as part of its strategic approach to advancing IT services within Northern Ireland schools. As the contracting authority, EANI intends to explore the latest technological advancements, particularly in the sphere of secure payment and special dietary needs management. This process is categorised within the IT services industry and is aimed to be conducted in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Key dates include a deadline for suppliers wishing to engage in the Preliminary Market Engagement (PME) exercise by 15:00 on Friday, 29th May 2026. The procurement follows Northern Irish devolved regulations and is currently not in the formal tender stage, focusing instead on market engagement and research.

This preliminary phase offers opportunities for businesses specialising in IT consulting, software development, and school catering services to provide insights into innovative solutions and financial systems software. Companies that thrive in integrating modern IT systems within educational settings are ideally suited to engage in this process. Participation in the PME can assist businesses in influencing future procurement strategies and showcasing their solutions’ feasibility. This exercise helps inform EANI on market capacities and potential approaches, creating potential for those businesses to further develop their offerings to meet public sector needs. Additionally, while the exercise itself does not guarantee a procurement process, it does set the stage for informed business planning, which could lead to substantial tenders in the future.
