Reigate and Banstead Borough Council procured ash dieback surveying and forestry and arboriculture services, including felling, harvesting, removal and disposal of infected ash trees affected by Class 3 and 4 disease. Joe Court Forestry Ltd won Lot 1, Banstead Downs and Park Downs, for £154,860, and Lot 2, Banstead Heath and Burgh Heath, for £115,980. Ben Nicholson Tree Services Limited won Lot 3, Reigate Hill, for £83,160. Each contract period runs from 16 November 2026 to 31 March 2027, with an option for the Council to buy additional felling, removal and disposal services if further trees are identified. Bidders could apply for one or more lots; the Council could limit awards where a supplier’s resources were insufficient to deliver multiple lots concurrently. Each lot was evaluated on quality (55%) and price (45%).

This award shows a defined requirement for contractors able to survey ash dieback, plan and carry out tree felling and timber harvesting, and remove and dispose of infected trees safely in public locations. Notice Description

Following completed tender evaluations, the publication of contract award notice identifies the most advantageous Tenderer for each Lot (Lot 1-3). The appointment of suitably qualified and experienced contractors to deliver the services, undertaking the felling and harvesting of ash trees affected by Class 3 and 4 ash dieback disease within a heavily visited public site. The Contractor shall comply with all applicable felling licence conditions, FISA guidance, British Standards, environmental legislation and health and safety requirements relevant to the works. The scope of services includes the provision of the following: * Additional Pre-works & Surveys and obtain any additional permissions and licences required to complete the works * Forestry services including the felling, removal, and disposal of infected ash trees with exemption where other trees are impeding access to the ash. * Arboriculture related works and services including pruning of nearby trees to prevent damage during the felling of infected ash trees * Ground preparation/Reinstatement Works of the areas to a suitable condition for natural regeneration of trees and public access The proposed contracts contain the following service provision lots based on geographical locations: Lot 1: Banstead Downs & Park Downs Lot 2: Banstead Heath & Burgh Heath Lot 3: Reigate Hill
