Summary of the contracting process

Defence Equipment and Support intends to procure continued in-service support for Joint Service Aircrew Headsets, MK10 helmet communications equipment and associated spares, plus the UKStratCom Tactical Systems Close Combat Communication Hearing Protection System used by the Army. The equipment supports Defence operational and training activities, so the requirement covers maintaining availability, supplying spares and providing technical support for equipment already in service. This is a goods requirement covering military communications headsets, protective equipment and electronic and electrical spare parts for military aerospace equipment. Delivery is across the United Kingdom. The planned procurement is suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises, and is relevant to suppliers with defence communications, military hearing protection, headset maintenance, technical support and specialist spares capabilities.

This procurement is at the planning stage: the buyer has announced an intention to procure, but has not invited tenders. Defence Equipment and Support expects to use a direct award procedure. The planned contract is expected to run from 18 January 2027 to 17 January 2030, with renewal possible until 17 January 2033. Its estimated value is £5,834,000 excluding VAT, or £7,000,000 including VAT. There is one planned lot, and the requirement is above the relevant threshold. The current support arrangement expires on 30 September 2026, while the next sequential procurement notice is expected on 21 September 2026. Suppliers should be prepared to support multiple Defence user communities and provide dependable access to equipment, replacement parts and technical support across the UK. The planned direct award and the stated continuation of an existing support requirement make incumbent-equipment knowledge, system compatibility and continuity of service particularly important. The requirement is identified as suitable for SMEs, although specialist defence-sector competence will be central when the market engagement progresses.

This equipment is essential to support operational and training activities and continues to be widely used across Defence. Support is currently provided through the existing Invisio Communications contract (708493450), which expires on 30 September 2026. Continued support is required to maintain equipment availability and ensure uninterrupted access to equipment, spares, and technical support.
