Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process, initiated by Orkney Islands Council, is centred around the contract titled "Promoting Orkney - Film and Photography". This initiative, categorised under services in the recreation, culture, and religion industry, aims to enhance Orkney's digital presence through quality film and photography. The procurement was conducted via an open procedure, with an active status and a total value of £26,000. The tender period closed on 25th April 2019, marking a significant step for businesses looking to contribute to the promotion of Orkney across various media platforms.

This contract presents a substantial opportunity for businesses involved in digital media, particularly those specialising in photography and film production. As the project's focus is on creating high-quality, locally generated content to support sectors such as tourism, food & drink, and creative industries, companies with capabilities in these areas would be well-suited to respond. Furthermore, the requirements for evening and weekend work highlight the need for flexible and responsive service providers, making this an enticing opportunity for small to medium enterprises eager to grow in a competitive market while supporting the broader goal of promoting Orkney's offerings.

Notice Title

Promoting Orkney - Film and Photography

Notice Description

This contract involves providing a dedicated film and photography resource to supply content for use on all of Orkney's key promotional websites, social media and, less frequently, print media. This dedicated and reactive resource should ensure that all the best media opportunities can be acted upon and will involve evening and weekend work. This contract will result in quality photography and film footage across all the key sectors, and this will be used in general Orkney marketing, but also by individual businesses (primarily members of the key industry groups) in their own promotions, leading to a cost-effective use of limited resources. Footage should be produced for all key Orkney events, for businesses and activities across Orkney towns, parishes and islands and to support specific priorities such as attracting more people to live and study in Orkney through filming a range of people who have made the move.

Lot Information

Lot 1

This contract is one element of an eight-month project to fulfil an increasing requirement for digital media and content to promote the latest iteration of orkney.com to the benefit of Orkney's key sectors - tourism, food & drink, creative industries and energy - while also encouraging people to move to Orkney to live, work or study. The market for Orkney's products and services is worldwide and increasing Orkney's digital presence is the most cost-effective way to spread Orkney's message across the globe. The project will feed new and developing social media channels and support the next stage development of orkney.com, which since December 2018, has been the main source of online content for Orkney, combining the previously separate orkney.com and visitorkney.com. The project will create locally generated digital content by way of photography, film footage and copywriting, which will be used in webpages, blogs, newsletters and regular communication with an ever-expanding database of potential customers who are interested in Orkney. All sectors are agreed that digital marketing is essential to maintain and protect Orkney's reputation for quality as well as being a cost-effective channel to attract new people and business. All sectors require increased access to high quality and locally generated digital content to populate their industry websites and social media activity. This project will provide resource to equitably cover all areas of Orkney including the islands.

This project will provide resource to equitably cover all areas of Orkney including the islands.",
