NORTH AYRSHIRE COUNCIL

This public procurement record has 1 release in its history.

Summary of the contracting process

North Ayrshire Council is in the planning stage of a procurement process titled "Market Engagement - Landfill Gas Capture," aimed at exploring the viability of capturing landfill gas at two historical sites: Brodick Landfill on the Isle of Arran and Nethermains Landfill near Kilwinning. The industry category falls under general public services, and the project is set to spur developments in environmental management services. The procurement exercise involves a market engagement session, with involved parties encouraged to return their responses by 24th September 2025. North Ayrshire Council is committed to early supplier involvement, intending to award the contract by November 2025 and complete it by March 2026, in alignment with both council funding and a grant from the Scottish Government.

This tender represents a substantial opportunity for businesses specialising in environmental engineering, waste management, and related technology sectors. Companies that can provide innovative solutions for landfill gas capture will find this tender particularly appealing, as the project seeks not only technical execution but also strategic insights for sustainable gas management. By participating, businesses can leverage their expertise to influence the design parameters of potential systems, creating room for long-term collaboration and growth prospects within this and future projects sponsored by North Ayrshire Council. The focus on collaborative market engagement also ensures suppliers can shape requirements and explore potential joint ventures with a forward-thinking local authority client.

Notice Title

Market Engagement - Landfill Gas Capture

Notice Description

North Ayrshire Council ("NAC") are looking to notify the market about the contract opportunity for the assessment of the viability at two historic landfill sites to capture landfill gas. The sites are: Brodick Landfill Site - which is situated on the Island of Arran, at the east side of Brodick, adjacent to the coastline and with farmland to the south of the site. NAC operated this site and disposed of household, commercial and industrial wastes. The site was operational from the 1960's until the 31st of August 2006. Nethermains Landfill Site - which is situated between Irvine and Kilwinning just south of the A78. The site area within the WML boundary is approximately 11 hectares. The majority of Nethermains Landfill Site was formally agricultural land prior to landfill operations. North Ayrshire Council operated this site and disposed of household, commercial and industrial wastes. The site operated from the late1970's to the mid-2000. The purpose of this market engagement questionnaire is to give suppliers advanced notice of the project, determine the best route to market, and to help shape the procurement process in terms of any minimum requirements set. NAC are a strong believer in early supplier involvement to ensure the success of projects. We would therefore like to encourage you to participate to ensure your feedback is captured and considered. The questionnaire should be returned to William Tomelty, Procurement Team Manager (Sustainability) at williamtomelty@north-ayrshire.gov.uk before close of business 24th September 2025.
