Summary of the contracting process

The University of Lincoln procured a strategic technology partner to supply and support its digital infrastructure. The scope covers networking, compute, storage and backup, including vendor-neutral solution design, hardware and software procurement, installation, maintenance, technical support, lifecycle management and consultancy. The work is intended to sustain existing systems and support future technology development for the University’s operational, teaching, research and business needs, with an emphasis on secure, resilient and scalable infrastructure. The buyer is the University of Lincoln, and delivery is for its estate in Lincoln, in the East Midlands. The procurement combines technology products with associated installation, maintenance and IT support services.

The procurement is complete and an award has been made to CDW UK Ltd. The award was dated 22 September 2026. Its value is £8 million, with a contract period from 6 October 2026 to 5 October 2030. The tender deadline was 2 July 2026. The competition was run through the Crown Commercial Service’s Technology Products and Associated Services framework, education technology lot, using a further competition after supplier expressions of interest and market engagement. The stated tender estimate and award value are both £8 million. No separate evaluation criteria are recorded in the procurement details, so the basis on which competing offers were assessed cannot be described further.

This award demonstrates demand from the University of Lincoln for an integrated, end-to-end infrastructure partner rather than a supplier of a single product category. A credible competitor when this requirement next returns to market would need to combine networking, compute, storage and backup expertise with vendor-neutral architecture and the ability to procure, deploy and maintain hardware and software. The delivery model also calls for ongoing support, lifecycle management, project delivery and professional consultancy, with the capability to keep an established estate operating while enabling technology change. Suppliers need to show they can serve the University’s operational, teaching, research and business environments and deliver secure, resilient and scalable infrastructure. The award went to a large supplier, and the procurement was conducted through a framework further competition.
