Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Blood and Transplant organisation, based in Bristol, led a procurement process titled "Framework Agreement for Supply and Maintenance of Blood Component Transport Containers." This initiative involved multiple health services across the UK and Ireland and was conducted via an open procedure. The procurement process has moved to the Award stage as of 8th July 2026, with contracting expected to commence on 30th September 2026 and conclude on 29th September 2030. Significant stakeholders include the Irish Blood Transfusion Service, Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service, Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, and the Welsh Blood Service, focusing on the goods category related to medical transport containers. The procurement aims to ensure high standards and temperature control in transporting blood components.

This tender provides a promising opportunity for businesses specializing in manufacturing special-purpose mobile containers, particularly for SMEs like va-Q-tec Thermal Solutions GmbH, which has secured contracts under this framework. Companies offering durable, temperature-controlled transport solutions stand to benefit significantly by addressing the stringent requirements of maintaining blood components safely over various transit conditions. With scopes covering both the supply of new containers and the maintenance of existing ones, as well as potential call-off opportunities across multiple health services, businesses offering innovative, cost-effective designs aligned with health regulations will find substantial avenues for growth and collaboration in this sector.
