Summary of the contracting process

NHS Blood and Transplant procured a framework for the supply, repair and maintenance of specialist transport containers used for blood components. This includes new blood component transport containers under Lot 1 and repair and maintenance of existing containers under Lot 2. The requirement covers special-purpose mobile containers and body transport containers, with repair and maintenance services also included for Lot 2. Lot 1 can be used by NHS Blood and Transplant, the Irish, Northern Ireland and Scottish blood transfusion services, and the Welsh Blood Service. The procurement has been awarded through an open procedure as a framework agreement, with call-offs made with or without reopening competition. Lot 1 was awarded to va-Q-tec Thermal Solutions GmbH for £2,083,333.33 excluding VAT (£2,500,000 gross), with an awarded period from 30 September 2026 to 29 September 2030. NHSBT conducted initial market engagement for 'Supply and Maintenance of Blood Component Transportation Containers', via issue of a PIN under the Procurement Contract Regulations (Notice Identifier: 2024/S 000-033233). Further market engagement is due to take place in June 25, hence NHSBT are issuing a Preliminary Market Engagement Notice. If you are interested in taking part in the market engagement, please contact james.marshall2@nhsbt.nhs.uk by no later than 17:00 hrs (GMT) on 06/06/2025. There is no guarantee that a formal procurement process will be launched as a result of this early market engagement exercise, nor that any contract(s) will be placed. No remuneration or compensation etc will be paid to organisations who take part in this early market engagement exercise. Suppliers should take part in this process only on the basis that they fully understand and accept this position.
