National Grid Electricity Transmission PLC intends to procure fully integrated security solutions for critical national infrastructure sites at Walham in Gloucestershire and Pentir in Gwynedd. The works cover the design and design support, supply and installation of closed-circuit television, surveillance and security systems, fire and burglar alarms, telecommunications equipment, fencing, gates, railings and related safety equipment. The scope also includes engineering and construction works associated with substations. The procurement is divided between the Walham site and the Pentir site, with the same broad security and infrastructure requirements applying to each. Delivery is across the United Kingdom, specifically at these two National Grid electricity transmission locations. This is a works requirement for suppliers able to provide an integrated rather than a single-product security installation.

This procurement is at the planning stage: National Grid has stated its intention to buy, but has not issued an invitation to tender. It expects to use a selective, above-threshold competitive flexible procedure for utilities. The buyer expects expressions of interest by 7 October 2026 at 17:00, followed by an award decision expected by 28 January 2027. The buyer expects both contracts to run from 26 February 2027 to 25 February 2028. There are two planned lots: ISS Walham and ISS Pentir, and suppliers may need to consider them separately. The buyer expects the next notice on 28 September 2026. The procedure features are to be advised, and submissions are expected in English. Expressions of interest will support initial supplier onboarding and receipt of tender documentation.

The work is likely to suit established security integrators, electrical and telecommunications contractors, engineering and construction firms, and specialist suppliers able to combine these disciplines. Strong candidates will have experience designing, installing and commissioning integrated surveillance, access and perimeter-security solutions, including CCTV, alarms, gates, fencing and safety equipment. Experience working on substations, electricity transmission assets or other critical national infrastructure should be relevant, as the sites require security solutions suitable for nationally important operational facilities. Suppliers should be prepared to demonstrate appropriate technical competence, delivery capacity and experience coordinating design, construction, communications and security systems across separate locations. National Grid says it is seeking experienced and suitably qualified suppliers. Early preparation should include completing supplier onboarding information accurately and ensuring the organisation is registered on the Central Digital Platform.
