Notice Description

The University is seeking a Virtual Reality Solution for the 'Imagineering Zone' of the new Discovery and Innovation Centre. Our approach to this supply relationship will be one of a partnership. We will be looking to develop a collaborative relationship with a supplier, who will be required to (i) advise on the most optimal technology/solution for this 'Imagineering Zone', and (ii) supply, deliver and install the equipment and software.

The University is investing a new state-of-the-art Discovery and Innovation Centre. A flagship 19M GBP building at the Edinburgh Campus which will be designed to inspire and benefit students, staff, industry and the wider community, working in the frontiers of digital innovation. An integral part of Discovery & Innovation Centre for corporate partners, entrepreneurs and students will be the 'Imagineering Zone'. We aspire to have innovative technology and software solutions within this zone, achieving the following objectives: - Highly immersive customer experiences - Eye tracking - Tracking of individuals and behaviours - Visualisation of complex data - Bespoke 3D resource which creates 3D prototypes for entrepreneurs, customers, funders, students engineers and designers to analyse (this may include 3D printing linked to virtual worlds) - Virtual Prototyping and Product Manipulation - Scenario and "What if?" evaluations of different industry challenges - Global Collaboration and co design, evaluation and test - Highly engaging visualisation of student enterprise activities - Systems that are capable to transit across the reality-virtuality continuum. Capability to create, facilitate or support mixed reality, geolocation and mixed mode visualisation. - Binaural audio, 3D sound scapes and high resolution haptics equipment - Integration of virtual and physical demonstrations (for example robotics) From a research perspective, the most important element will be the open architecture systems, or at least software and/or hardware that will allow our Academics to conduct development. The solution that we are seeking must be able to be implemented on all HWU UK and Global campus locations and include common software platform and integration between all HWU campus locations. Hardware for other Campus locations is not required as part of the initial requirement, however future expansion to these campuses should be considered. Our approach to this supply relationship will be one of a partnership.
