Summary of the contracting process

The London Bus Services Limited (LBSL) is currently involved in the procurement process for a contract titled "Contract for the supply of a bus communications and information system and related services." This initiative falls under the IT services sector, specifically classed as consulting, software development, and Internet support. The procurement is at the Award stage, reflecting the recent agreement with Trapeze ITS Switzerland GmBH Limited for the ongoing provision of iBus services. As of 27 April 2022, LBSL has extended the existing contract for an interim period, allowing Trapeze to continue its services through to May 2027, thus ensuring continued operational stability for London's bus communications while transitioning to a new system, iBus2.

This procurement presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in IT services, particularly those offering software development, systems integration, and support for public transport frameworks. Companies equipped to deliver sophisticated communications and monitoring solutions for large transport networks would find this tender particularly fitting. Moreover, firms capable of seamlessly transitioning systems and providing robust support services would be well-positioned to compete and potentially collaborate with LBSL in shaping the future of bus communication technology in London.

Notice Description

Lot Information

Contract for the supply of a bus communications and information system and related services

In 2005 LBSL awarded a 10-year contract to Siemens for the bus communication system known as iBus (the Contract). The Contract was novated to Trapeze in October 2009, when Trapeze purchased the relevant business. In 2015, the parties agreed to extend the Contract from May 2015 for up to 7 years, such that it would terminate in May 2022. Please see the description given at section II.2.4 above for further details of the Contract. The modifications will extend the Contract on its existing terms for a period of up to 5 years (an initial term that takes the remaining duration of the Short-term Extension plus the further extension to a total of 3 years, plus options for two additional one-year extensions) and are required so that Trapeze can continue to provide the iBus services while the procurement of, and transition to, iBus2 services is completed. Please see the description given at section VII.2.1 for further details of the modifications.
