Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process is being conducted by National Highways for the extension of the National Roads Telecommunications Service 2 (NRTS 2). The tender is classified under the industry category of Telecommunications services and mainly involves services related to the operation, maintenance, and further development of telecommunications infrastructure connecting roadside devices to central locations across motorways and trunk roads in England. The procurement is currently at the tender update stage, as of 20 January 2025, with the deadline for submission aligned with the ongoing NRTS2 contract obligations. The process includes significant amendments and extensions to ensure continuity of services and is followed by a planned subsequent procurement for NRTS3 expected to be published in April 2025.

This tender presents ample opportunities for businesses operating in the telecommunications and IT services sectors to showcase their expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects. Companies that provide telecommunications services, radio, television, and communication equipment, as well as construction and software package services, are well-suited to contribute to and benefit from this project. The extension period and the upcoming NRTS3 procurement ensure continuous business engagement, allowing vendors to secure long-term contracts, enhance their portfolio with critical national infrastructure projects, and achieve substantial business growth through a partnership with National Highways.
