Notice Title

ASR Development of Automatice bicycle monitoring system

Notice Description

Abellio ScotRail Limited are seeking an appropriate organisation(s) and/or companies to work in partnership with ASR and Transport Scotland in the development of an automated system for recording the level of bicycle usage within the ScotRail network, in respect of both cycle carriage on trains and storage at cycle-parking facilities at railway stations.

Lot Information

Lot 1

ScotRail are seeking development of an automated system for recording the level of bicycle usage within the ScotRail network, in respect of both cycle carriage on trains and storage at cycle-parking facilities at stations. The carriage of bicycles on trains and the use of cycle parking at stations forms a recognised and valued component of the services ScotRail provides. This activity is the subject of regular commentary by key stakeholders and interest groups. However, the related level and accuracy of data that is currently gathered is limited. ScotRail is able to identify certain aspects and levels of usage through our existing bicycle reservation systems and manual observation/counts. However, this is resource intensive and does not provide a 'full picture' of such usage. The identified partner would assist in the research and development of an appropriate technological solution. It would be anticipated that upon agreement an appropriate system(s) would be introduced under 'pilot' conditions, with the view to a subsequent roll out across the full network.. The system(s) developed require to be sustainable over the longer term (i.e. it is not a 'one-off' date gathering exercise), and should require minimal manual intervention on a day-to-day basis other than for system set up or maintenance.
